Summer Mission Trip 2010!!!

                                August 1-7

Navajo Reservation—Bisti, New Mexico

Hey there everybody!  This is what you’ve been  waiting for!  This summer we’ll be heading down to Bisti, New Mexico to work with the Navajo population on a reservation there.  We’ll be doing lots of home repairs and construction, meeting and interacting with families and learning about the Navajo culture.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the summer mission trips are the best and most important things I’m involved with every year and I can’t wait for this one.  Here are some of the important details:

· Who: Open to any Senior High student, including incoming 9th graders

· When:  We’ll leave Sunday, August 1st and return either the 6th or 7th depending on if we take a sightseeing day at the end of the trip.

· What:  We’ll be working on many different construction projects in the community, including home construction and repair and whatever else they need.  It’s a very poor community that we’ll be serving.  You don’t need construction experience, just a willingness to try!

· Transportation:  We’ll be using adult volunteers and taking our own vehicles this trip.  We’ll look into getting vans.

· Accommodations:  We’ll be staying in a pretty rustic church on the floor with mats and sleeping bags.  There is a shower but the church itself has no running water.  (sounds like fun!)

· Meals:  All of the meals will be provided by the mission we are working with.  We’ll get some traditional Navajo food as well as other options.

· Schedule:  We’ll work full days on Monday-Thursday with activities  in the community in the evenings.  Friday we’ll say our goodbyes and have a day to ourselves, and probably drive back Saturday.

Last but not least

· Cost:  The mission cost is $395 per person.  Most of that cost goes to the construction materials we’ll be using as well as our food and lodging.  We’ll add some on for gas for the trip so I expect around $425.

We’ll be doing fundraisers before this trip and making sure it’s affordable to all!

I know that in these times it’s tough to find the money to take trips like this but I want you to know we’ll knock down that cost significantly before the trip starts.  My initial goal is to ask you to pay 1/2 of that price and we’ll raise the other half.  We will have scholarships available and I don’t want money to be the reason anyone couldn’t go.

This letter is just to let you know the plan.  Let me know that you’re interested and I’ll get registration forms to you.  Bring your friends on this and PLEASE make this a priority for your summer.  I promise it will be the best week you have all year.  I need to get a number to the mission as soon as I can so please let me know ASAP that you’re interested and we’ll go from there.  Call me with any questions.  Thanks.

Younger Youth:  Sunday School is back with more friends, more "guest visitors", more cool stories and more fun!  I love seeing all of you on Sunday morning so come to these lessons and bring some friends!

Middle School:  Wyldlife is back in business.  We meet every Wednesday night (except 1st Wed of the month) at Vail Christian High School in Edwards from 7:01-8:16 for fun, games, Bible study, music and so much more.  If you've never been, this is the year to try it!  If you've been before, I'll see you on Wednesday, because you know exactly what I'm talking about.  Bring some friends!

High School:  YoungLife is back and I can't wait for the cool things we're doing this semester.  Last Monday we took a great night hike and had so much fun we've decided to make the first Monday night of every month "Adventure Monday".  The other Mondays we'll have CLUB at the Miller Ranch Community Center in Edwards at 7:15 and you don't want to miss those!  We were getting close to 100 students when we took our Christmas break!

All for now, let me know if you've got any questions, ideas or thoughts!  It's so great to be a part of a youth group that’s doing good things.  In this past month I've got to lead 4 different service activities in our town and Denver.  Thanks for coming to this stuff, wanting to have fun and wanting to give back.  See you all soon.
